After the amazing sights of the Pyramids our second day of sightseeing involved learning about Islam, visiting a Mosque, seeing how Papyrus scrolls are made and taking in the sites at the Cairo museum to name a few.
I am so glad
we have come to Egypt during the winter time. The weather is actually a perfect 20 degrees Celsius or just below and I don’t really have to be conscious of covering up as there is no overwhelming heat to put up with. In Egypt you are not really forced to cover your self up, however as a female you would probably receive some unwanted
attention. I think I have lost count of how many times local men have said ‘lucky man’ to Josip and it’s only our third day here.
Around 94% of Egypt’s population is Muslim and most of the rest are Coptic Christians. The Mosque we went to visit is the Mosque of Muhammad ‘Ali Pasha which was built between 1828 and 1848. Perched on the summit of the citadel, this Ottoman mosque, the largest to be built in the first half of the 19th Century, is, with its animated silhouette and twin minarets, the most visible mosque in Cairo. If you want to know more about the history follow this link Muhammad Ali’s Cairo You will find out who Muhammad Ali was and how important he was in Egypt. By the way I am not talking about the boxer!

My dad’s sister Anna moved from Australia with her husband and three kids about 5 years ago to come and make a new life in a coastal town called Novi Vinodolski. I was really excited as the kids would have changed so much Marinko the oldest is now 21 a fully grown man with facial hair and all. It was really cool seeing them all with their newly developed Croatian accents and it was funny when they had forgotten the way some things were said in English and I had to remind them.

Today we decided to get away from the concrete jungle (London) and headed off to Stone Henge and Salisbury for a weekend day trip. Stone henge is a prehistoric monument in Britain and is a World Heritage site that is roughly 5 thousand years old. It took us around 2 hours from central London to get to the site and it was well worth the bus ride.
