The long awaited snow! (Zamrsje)

Posted by: Melanie3rd January, 2006

The snow in Karlovac was just beautiful especially where our grandparents live in Zamrsje. Josip and I managed to go for a really long nice walk in the snow. Man it was hard work and I was so hot with all the snow clothes we had on. We actually spotted six deer’s Rudolphwhile we were walking through the snow it was so amazing. I managed to take some video footage but was shaking a bit as I was so excited. We then tried to run through snow that was like knee deep but of course it was to much hard work for me and I almost dropped dead. And of course there was no way we would catch up with the light footed creatures. Jos took some cool pictures which are below:

This week we just did a lot of eating and just about everyone invited us over for dinner and lots of cakes. We also did go out thanks to Josip’s relative Ivica and his wife Mirella. They took us to Zagreb to do some skiing but when we got there it was actually so packed we just took some photos there instead. But we did get to see this cool huge shopping centre that had one store in it that was like a Kmart, Coles, Target and a restaurant all rolled into one. We actually brought some cevapi and fresh rolls in their and some amazing custard cakes.

We also got to go to Toplica which is basically an indoor / outdoor swimming pool that actually has natural heated spring water from underground. So picture this your in an indoor pool which continues outside and is really warm and steamy but it is snowing outside. It was very relaxing and really fun and it made me realise how much I miss swimming.

We would like to say a big thanks to Ivica and Mirella they also took us out on NYE yay which was fantastic as I thought we were going to be stuck on the farm wishing the pigs a Happy 2006. They really went out of their way to make us feel welcome and we had a great time thanks to them.

Well we had a great time once again in Croatia but man getting back to Venice to catch our flight to London was a pain in the backside. We left Rijeka at around 12 mid-day and did not get back to Venice airport until 2100hrs which was around an hour before our flight. We were meant to get there heaps earlier but I think we had some criminal on our bus as we got stopped at all three border crossings for around an hour each time. Anyway lucky they have finally made an airline that does cheap flights from London to Croatia so next time we can just fly straight to Zagreb and avoid all the hassle.

Josip & I would like to thank Baka & Deda for allowing us to stay with them for the duration of our trip. We had a fantastic time due to their hospitality and kindness. We would also like to say thanks to the rest of the relatives that put up with us and made us feel welcome. Big grin

Hey Guys!

The picks look amazing! Sounds like you guys are having a great time. Its a dream of mine to one day have a white Christmas. How amazing would it be to wake up in the morning and see the snow falling. Keep the pics coming!

Everyone down here in Melb is really good. We’re going away for the long weekend which should be good. The weather has actually been pretty warm down here the last couple of weeks. I’m sure you guys are looking forward to the warmer weather. We’ve got the Commonwealth Games coming up in the next week or two so things are starting to get crazy. You guys might get to see some of the footage over there. Keep an eye out for me! :-)

Hope to hear from you guys soon

Luv always Anita and Tom

Brrr, it looks really cold and eerily beautiful but I don’t know if I could stand it for long. I know your father certainly couldn’t. It would bring back too many memories of his cat that froze one night long ago in Croatia.Hi, Memi and Josip. Keep the pictures coming [ hint hint]

Bye, lots of love Mum Krajinovic and Dad.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
